We're one week into 2025! The new year can be a great time to start something new or embark on a new chapter in your life or career. Here are some tips on how you can thrive in 2025 and get the best out of the year to come...
Authenticity
The single most important thing, which I am sure you will have heard before but it definitely needs to be said - BE YOURSELF. 'Authenticity' was a major buzzword in 2024, but I truly believe that it is absolutely essential to be authentic and be yourself in order to succeed; and I don't just mean in your career.
Yes, you can 'fake it til you make it' (and this phrase has got me through many a networking event or meeting!) but I have found that more often than not, if I start talking to someone at a networking event, for example, by saying 'I find these events so awkward and struggle talking to people' (usually when pouring a coffee or ordering a drink), they often reply with a 'oh, me too!'... and conversation usually tends to flow after that.
Put yourself out there
This is also something that I, and many people I have met over the past year, have championed previously, but you have to put yourself out there. If you don't make some noise about who you are, what you do or how you can fix a potential client's problem, then no one will. Admittedly, this may apply more to sole traders or independent business people, but you should not be afraid to share what you do and what you know.
Attend networking events (in person and online!), post regularly on social media, and reply to comments online; be present and people will start to notice you.
Focus on your goals
Set some realistic goals for 2025 (whether you want to work with a specific type of client, generate a certain amount of profit, or hire your first employee) and then have them in mind with every action you undertake. From posting on social media to general advertising, by making sure that what you are doing is aligning with your goals, it will help you to achieve them.
Don't panic if you get a negative comment online
When you receive negative feedback or comments online, it's easy to think it's the end of the world. However, from another perspective, it can be seen as the perfect opportunity to promote your business. You can use your expertise to show how the person trolling you is wrong or misinformed, and actually demonstrate how good your business is to not only your 'troll', but everyone else who will have inadvertently seen the post.

BOOKS! I know I'm guilty of spending too much time on my laptop or looking at my phone (it's one of the downsides of working in digital marketing), but it is important to have some downtime away from screens. So - read a book (or listen to an audiobook)! Not only will this help with the strain on your eyes of looking at screens, it will also mean you actually switch off from work for a bit, which is definitely good for your mental health.
Drink more water!
And my last final bit of advice - drink more water! I've recently got into the habit of making sure I have a glass of water every time I make a cup of tea or coffee, and before I eat a main meal. Water is so good for you, and I definitely feel better for drinking more of it.
So, there are just a few tips on what you can do to help you thrive in 2025. Have I missed any? What would be number 1 on your list?
